Chevy Chase Uses N-Word in Rant On Set, Halts Production

Chevy Chase reportedly used the N-word in a rant while taping "Community" last week, causing shock waves that jolted the already troubled show.

According to Deadline, the Bedford-based actor was upset about the racist depiction of his character, Pierce Hawthorne. Unfortunately, the actor chose to make his point by saying that he wondered if his character would next say the "N-word" to Shirley or Troy (played by African-American actors Yvette Nicole Brown and Donald Glover.) Production was halted after the incident, and Chase is said to have later apologized to the cast and crew.

This isn't the first time Chase has caused controversy on the "Community" set. Showrunner Dan Harmon had a rocky relationship with Chase, and their feud became public at the end of last season, when Harmon played an angry voicemail Chase had left him at a public event, which leaked online. While Harmon was fired from the show soon after for separate reasons, based on this latest news, Chase could perhaps be next.

The NBC comedy, which was supposed to begin its fourth season on Oct. 19, was taken off the schedule without any word on when it will air.
