Man Sues Wife for Being Ugly, Wins
Divorces can get pretty ugly, especially when the reason is your looks.
A mysterious story, apparently emanating from a court case in northern China has stoked a worldwide debate over plastic surgery, beauty and deception.
Fox 31 reported a strange court case last week, where a Chinese woman, who had plastic surgery before her wedding, and was allegedly sued by her husband.
The website reported that Jian Feng divorced and sued his "beautiful" wife for around £75,000 and won, because she had deceived him into believing her good looks were all natural, when they had been fashioned from a surgeon's scalpel.
According to reports, Feng told a court in China he had been deeply in love with his beautiful wife until they had a baby girl.
Gazing into his baby daughter's eyes, Feng was repulsed."* Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian, Jayar Jackson, and Jesus Godoy discuss this strange story, how a man could possibly win a lawsuit over an "ugly wife," and the fairness to his now ex-wife and child.

Absurd Anti-Gay Ad 'Where's Your Mommy?'
It's not clear which organization is behing this ad, but it depicts a little boy falling off a playground. A woman asks him where his mommy is and he...is sad? Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian break down this ridiculous ad which seems almost too absurd to be real.

Sandy: Climate Change and Devastation Numbers
Yes, global warming systemically caused Hurricane Sandy -- and the Midwest droughts and the fires in Colorado and Texas, as well as other extreme weather disasters around the world. Let's say it out loud, it was causation, systemic causation.
Systemic causation is familiar. Smoking is a systemic cause of lung cancer. HIV is a systemic cause of AIDS. Working in coal mines is a systemic cause of black lung disease. Driving while drunk is a systemic cause of auto accidents. Sex without contraception is a systemic cause of unwanted pregnancies.
There is a difference between systemic and direct causation. Punching someone in the nose is direct causation. Throwing a rock through a window is direct causation. Picking up a glass of water and taking a drink is direct causation. Slicing bread is direct causation. Stealing your wallet is direct causation. Any application of force to something or someone that always produces an immediate change to that thing or person is direct causation. When causation is direct, the word cause is unproblematic."* Cenk Uygur presents the facts supporting climate change as a direct factor to extreme, devastating weather as evidenced by Superstorm Sandy and posits as to why the media is electing to ignore those facts.

Box Score FAIRFAX, Va. -- The George Mason men's basketball team saw five players score in double figures as the Patriots outlasted a pesky Bowie State squad, 76-72, in exhibition action Thursday night at the Patriot Center. Bowie State seniorByron Westmorland accounted for 30 points for the Bulldogs, who are picked to win the CIAA Northern Division title. SeniorDameatric Scott scored 18 points and fellow senior Najee White added a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds.
“We played very hard, I thought we defended well and I'm really pleased with our rebounding”, said Bowie State head coachDarrell Brooks after the game. “The thing we have to get better at is taking care of the basketball ... The guys are still learning each other and the season is just beginning”.
Marko Gujanicic led the way for the Patriots with a team-high 16 points. Adding to the Patriot offense was Erik Copes who had 13 points, while Vertrail Vaughns contributed 12, Anali Okoloji had 11 and Jonathan Arledge scored 10.
Mason had offensive struggles early, connecting on just one of their first nine field goal attempts, a layup by Copes. The Patriots would trail the Bulldogs for more than six minutes of the contest, until a Vaughns fast break layup tied the score at five. It was part of a 9-2 run that gave the Patriots a 12-7 advantage less than midway through the first half. That lead held up until the 10-minute mark when Westmorland's 3-pointer put the Bulldogs up 16-14.
The Patriots though, would take the lead back as the first half clock winded down. Mason used a 14-0 run spanning more than three minutes to take a 36-29 lead with less than 30 seconds to go. Westmorland hit a 3-pointer in to stop the run, but Johnny Williams answered with a trey of his own as the horn sounded to set the halftime score of 39-32.
Gujanicic led the Patriots with 12 points in the first half on 6-of-8 shooting, while Westmorland had 17 to lead all scorers. The Patriots shook off a rough start from the field to shoot 48.5 percent in the first half (16-33), compared to a 48 percent mark for the Bulldogs (12-25). Bowie State won the rebounding battle by a 17-16 margin, but committed 16 turnovers to just eight for Mason.
Bowie State pulled within a possession at 48-46 with a 7-0 run, nearly erasing the Patriots halftime advantage six and a half minutes into the period. The Bulldogs inched closer, regaining the lead at 51-49 on a Scott 3-pointer at the 12:36 mark. Arledge knocked down a jumper just beyond the stripe to tie the score, and a Okoloji layup would make the score 53-51 Patriots.
The Patriots opened up a lead as large as six from then on, but again the Bulldogs countered, tying the score at 64 with just over five minutes left in the contest. The Patriots would not trail again in the game, using a 12-4 run to open a 76-68 advantage after an Okoloji layup with 1:26 left.
For the game, the Bulldogs shot 53.2 percent compared to a 50 percent mark for the Patriots, but committed 27 turnovers to the Patriots 19. Mason also won the rebounding battle by a 33-32 margin. “The negative things that we come away with in this game are all correctable, teachable errors”, said Brooks.
The Bulldogs open the season Saturday, November 10 at Shepherd University in the Rams season opener of the Clarion Hotel Classic. Tip-off against the Rams is scheduled for 7 pm.

Joss Whedon 'Endorses' Romney
Presidential elections always fall just a few days after Halloween, yet very few campaigns take advantage of the timing. Leave it to Joss Whedon to make a political spoof ad endorsing Mitt Romney as the right leader for a zombie uprising.
In the midst of what has become a very internet-influenced election year, self-identified liberal Whedon released a video over the weekend calling the Republican presidential candidate the "one with the vision and determination to cut through business-as-usual politics and finally put this country back on the path to the zombie apocalypse."
The clip, which has gotten more than 1.1 million views on YouTube since Sunday, details how the policies proposed by Romney would create just the right environment for the walking dead to take over. Whedon also advises that the new "one percent" will be those who can run fast or know parkour."* Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian break down Whedon's clever endorsement, as well as other political ads for Obama and Romney.

Italian Scientists Convicted Over Earthquake Prediction
This week six scientists and one government official were sentenced to six years in prison for manslaughter, for making "falsely reassuring" comments before the 2009 L'Aquila earthquake. But was this fair?
First, we have to understand limits of earthquake science. Ian Main, Professor of Seismology and Rock Physics at the University of Edinburgh, was part of an international commission on earthquake forecasting set up after L'Aquila.
He says it is possible to predict where an earthquake might happen at some point. But it is impossible accurately to predict exactly when that earthquake will happen.
"We can forecast that they're almost certain to happen with a very low probability - maybe once in 100, once in 1,000 years depending on the size of an earthquake and in a given zone. And that's a hazard that's there all the time," says Main."* Cenk Uygur, John Iadarola (TYT University), and Dave Koller break down the divide between scientists and politicians, and whether or not its a good idea to set a legal precedent such as this.

Woman Lives Biblically For a Year
Just ahead of the book's release Oct. 30, evangelical author Rachel Held Evans announced that LifeWay Christian Resources had refused to stock her second work, A Year of Biblical Womanhood, which describes her humorous year-long attempt to follow the Bible's rules for women. LifeWay, which is operated by the Southern Baptist Convention, gave no official reason for the censorship, but it wasn't difficult to guess. Just a few months earlier, Evans had revealed a tangle with her publisher over the word "vagina," the inclusion of which they feared would be too offensive for Christian bookstores. Evans had allowed other mild profanities ("damn," "kick-ass") to be stripped from her manuscript, but she drew the line at "vagina." Her publisher, Thomas Nelson, allowed her to keep it in, but their fears proved correct."* Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian, and Ben Mankiewicz break down Evans' experiment and what it proves about following literal rules from the Bible.

Teen: NYPD Paid Me To Bait Innocent Muslims
A paid informant for the New York Police Department's intelligence unit was under orders to "bait" Muslims into saying inflammatory things as he lived a double life, snapping pictures inside mosques and collecting the names of innocent people attending study groups on Islam, he told The Associated Press.
Shamiur Rahman, a 19-year-old American of Bangladeshi descent who has now denounced his work as an informant, said police told him to embrace a strategy called "create and capture." He said it involved creating a conversation about jihad or terrorism, then capturing the response to send to the NYPD. For his work, he earned as much as $1,000 a month and goodwill from the police after a string of minor marijuana arrests.
"We need you to pretend to be one of them," Rahman recalled the police telling him. "It's street theater."
Rahman said he now believes his work as an informant against Muslims in New York was "detrimental to the Constitution." After he disclosed to friends details about his work for the police — and after he told the police that he had been contacted by the AP — he stopped receiving text messages from his NYPD handler, "Steve," and his handler's NYPD phone number was disconnected.
Rahman's account shows how the NYPD unleashed informants on Muslim neighborhoods, often without specific targets or criminal leads. Much of what Rahman said represents a tactic the NYPD has denied using."* Cenk Uygur breaks down the story and the completely unconstitutional acts the NYPD allegedly committed.

Debate: Polls Say Obama Won - CNN Calls Tie Again
Two instant polls conducted after Monday night's presidential debate place President Obama in the winner's circle, though the scale of his victory varied depending on the topic.
Overall, according to a CBS News poll, respondents ruled in favor of Obama over Mitt Romney, 53% to 23%, with 24% saying it was a tie. In a CNN poll, 48% said they favored Obama, compared with 40% for Romney.
Obama's performance in the debate apparently came as a surprise to many in CNN's poll, with 59% saying that the president exceeded their expectations. Forty-four percent said the same about Romney.
That said, there was little success for Obama in bringing voters over to his side, according to CNN's polling. Twenty-four percent of respondents said they were more likely to vote for Obama after the debate. About the same, 25%, said they were now leaning toward Romney."* Cenk Uygur brings us poll results from several sources and what CNN and other press outlets are choosing to ignore.

Mitt Romney and President Obama have widely divergent views on war and peace. Obama's is thoughtful, nuanced and sees war as a last resort, and only then in concert with key allies unless the U.S. or a very close ally is directly attacked or is faced with a very high likelihood of being attacked. Witness, for example, how the president skillfully managed to protect Libyan civilians from a bloodbath, employing the tools of supportive military power, engaging the Arab league and our allies, and not costing the life of a single American to oust Gaddafi.
Romney really does not have any views of his own. He has absolutely zero experience, and, it appears, zero knowledge of the world. Thus far, his only foreign policy achievement has been to unite all of Britain's political parties, including the Conservatives, around one belief -- for President Obama's re-election."* Cenk Uygur breaks down what conservative pundits said about Romney's "kidgloves" and whether or not anyone could admit that Obama had won (hint: no).

Mayor's Ex-Wife Sues Man Who 'Seduced' Husband
The former wife of Southaven Mayor Greg Davis is seeking $1 million in a lawsuit against a 26-year-old Starkville, Miss., man who she says broke up her marriage by luring Davis away from her.
Suzann Savage Davis claims in an alienation of affection suit that Jansen Fair told Greg Davis he was looking forward to a tryst in Las Vegas "locked away in bed in each other's arms." The Commercial Appeal reported (http://bit.ly/RKQpqP ) the suit was filed Thursday in DeSoto County, Miss., Circuit Court.
It's the latest in a string of legal battles for the Southaven mayor. He was ordered to repay more than $170,000 in city funds that the Mississippi auditor's office says he misspent and he faces possible criminal charges in an FBI probe. Also, Davis' former wife seeks to change their divorce terms in a separate court action.
In her suit, Suzann Davis says her former husband's longtime "deviant homosexual adulterous association" with Fair came to light when she on April 5, 2010, "inadvertently discovered intimate communications" in which Fair told Davis he was looking forward to the Las Vegas trip.
Greg Davis' lawyer, A.E. "Rusty" Harlow of Grenada, declined comment.
Martin Zummach, Suzann Davis' lawyer said Friday that Fair is well-known to Davis.
"Jansen Fair was among her children that she took care of when she was a volunteer at a church nursery in Columbus," he said."*
